tephanie Askew Bergmeyer, a Franklin, Tennessee, resident and accomplished attorney who served the State of Tennessee, has passed away at the age of 43. According to her published obituary, Stephanie died at her home on July 4, 2026. Her death has left family members, friends, former colleagues, and others who knew her mourning her loss.
Born on April 3, 1983, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Stephanie was the daughter of Steven Webb Askew and Ronette Anderson Askew. She attended Clemson University before earning her law degree from Vanderbilt Law School. Her legal career included several roles serving the state of Tennessee. She initially worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office before becoming an Administrative Law Judge with the Tennessee Secretary of State. She later served as Senior Associate Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Outside of her professional career, Stephanie was remembered for her love of family and especially her daughter, Natalie Mae Bergmeyer. She also maintained longstanding friendships, including relationships with friends from her Clemson years. Her obituary describes her as someone who valued her friendships, music, humor, travel, and the practice of law.
Travel was among Stephanie’s favorite pastimes. She and Natalie visited destinations including England and France and recently spent a long weekend in New York. They shared an interest in history and enjoyed discovering the stories and culture connected with the places they visited.
Stephanie is survived by her daughter Natalie, parents Steve and Ronette Askew, sister Marie Trenhaile and her husband Jeremy, nieces Ava and Madelyn Trenhaile, as well as extended family members.
A Celebration of Life was scheduled for August 1, 2026, at Eastern Flank Battlefield Park in Franklin. The family requested that, instead of flowers, those wishing to honor Stephanie consider making a donation to a charity or cause of their choice.
Stephanie Askew Bergmeyer’s legacy includes her dedication to public service, law, family, friendships, and the many memories she created with the people closest to her. She will be deeply missed and remembered by those whose lives she touched.
